Calling All Doulas!

By: Gloria Miles

Are you new in the area? Perhaps you feel like you are terrible at networking and need a little push? Or do you want more contacts, better resources, or maybe another backup doula?

Or maybe you just want to make a few new friends!

Whatever the reason, we encourage you to get to know Richmond Doulas a little better. In fact, we'd love if you could come by and check out what benefits membership could provide you.

First, there is the old adage of two heads being better than one. Being a part of Richmond Doulas means that you get to bounce ideas, information, and problems off of a wonderful group of women that you can trust. As with anything, variety is the spice of (doula) life! Having women who have gone through different educational pathways to becoming a doula, different birth experiences, and personalities means that there is an endless supply of birth wisdom to gain from this group.

Second, birth talk and wine night....I mean, monthly support meetings. These meetings are all about opening up discussions on important topics such as supporting the partner, supporting mothers with premature babies, or support during very long labors.

Third,  many women like to shop around for doulas; therefore, this is a great resource for moms-to-be and they take advantage of our collective! As inquiries come in, we send out a request for available doulas, and then pass along your information to mothers so that they can set up their interviews with members.

Fourth, we are as much a resource for you as to expectant families. Want to learn more about Aromatherapy? I have a class coming up for pregnancy and birth. (Sorry, had to plug it a little bit.) Want to learn rebozo techniques? We will let you know of upcoming classes. What about conferences? Are you always the last to know? Well, skip the headache of trying to dig up the newest classes and learn more about how to join Richmond Doulas. Take advantage of the information that comes from being part of the collective.

And guess what? You're in luck, because one of the first steps to becoming a member is joining an open meeting. Just as we want the right doula for every mom, we want to make sure that you feel this is the right group for you. And the next open meeting is only a few weeks away!

We will be exploring doula work and birth through art and discussing self-care. After all, doula work is very demanding! Sometimes we forget to slow down and recharge.

So come see what this group is about on July 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. At the very least, you'll start the weekend with a fun morning. Click here to see the Facebook event or contact us for more information.
