Late pregnancy and postpartum can be a time of worry and anxiety. As you face the unknown of birth and early parenting (whether this is your first baby or your fifth), worry can become overwhelming. Pam England, CNM and author of Birthing From Within, says that "worry is the work of pregnancy" and that women who worry the right amount during pregnancy are able to mobilize their coping resources and reach out for support. So a certain amount of worrying is good, normal and healthy! But when your mind is swirling with anxieties and you just feel like you can't take it anymore, why not consider using affirmations to help you through?
What is a birth affirmation? It's simply a phrase or a favorite reading that trains you to think positively and helps manage anxiety. You can write them on index cards and tape them up around your house in places where you may see them daily, like your bathroom mirror, write them on banners, in your journal, or just repeat them to yourself (or have your doula/partner/friends tell you).
Here is a list of awesome birth affirmations that you can totally steal for your big day! Some of these are also helpful postpartum!
