supporting and honoring families through the childbearing year
find a doula directory
We recommend you interview four to five doulas as you consider who you'd feel most comfortable sharing your birth and postpartum space with. If you'd like us to send you a personalized list of all the Richmond Doulas available for your due date with your specifications, please fill out our contact form.
Richmond Doulas is not a doula agency but a non-profit collective of doulas serving the Richmond area. Richmond Doulas’ current membership includes 50+ doulas with a combined experience of over 700 families served. We are just as dedicated to supporting each other as we are to the families that we serve. When you decide to work with any one of our doulas you can be confident that your doula has the support of our collective membership behind them. One of our requirements for membership is that doulas be trained by a certifying organization, so you can also be sure that your RD doula has met recognized doula training standards.
"How do I choose a doula?" The process of choosing a doula is different for every birthing parent and family. What kind of support are you looking for? Who do you feel comfortable with? What kind of expertise would you like your doula to have?
Our doulas serve clients in Richmond, VA and surrounding areas, including Charlottesville, Fredericksburg and Williamsburg.
Richmond Doulas believes that all persons regardless of age, sex, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression should be treated with dignity and respect. Richmond Doulas strives for proper pronouns and inclusive language. If "mother" or "father" is not the way you identify, it can create added stress during the childbearing year. If you identify as a trans or genderqueer parent, sometimes including info about the pronoun you prefer and the language that resonates for you can be helpful.
